The Eddie Eagle program, sponsored by the Fin And Feather Club and funded by the Friends Program, is a gun safety program targeted at children pre-school to third grade level. The program is made available to all 3rd grade students, and is presented by Bruce Krieger and/or John Laird, both retired from local schools. They currently present in the Ludington Public, Ludington Area Catholic, Pentwater, Free Soil, Scottville, and Custer schools. It is not pro-gun or anti-gun, it is a program that teaches kids what to do if they find a gun. The simple message of the program is: IF YOU SEE A GUN, STOP, DON'T TOUCH, LEAVE THE ROOM, TELL AN ADULT. The program is set to music with a video narrated by Jason Priestly. It features "hand outs" designed to gather the child's attention. This program is sponsored and produced by the National Rifle Association and endorsed by the Safety Council and many State and National Law Enforcement Agencies and Associations. The National Rifle Association Foundation provides a great portion of the materials at no cost to the Fin & Feather Club and to other Michigan organizations who present the program in their areas. It's interesting to see what happens when you ask a 3rd or 4th grader if they know about Eddie Eagle! If you are aware of an area school where Eddie Eagle is not being presented, please contact Bruce Krieger by phone (231)757-2279 or e-mail bfkreiger@yahoo.com, or contact a Fin & Feather Club officer, so we might share the program with them. |
